Every month, the Bridge Center will invite a speaker to participate in a monthly speaker series related to ethical issues in biomedical research.
This month, Dr. Nebeker discussed the importance of ethically sourced and trustworthy health data repositories for biomedical and behavioral research, particularly those supporting AI systems. She described a value sensitive design–based framework that integrated concepts from health data supply chain management to operationalize ethical values across repository development. The framework identified key actors, values, and tensions, and highlighted practices such as documenting data provenance and addressing privacy and bias. She also introduced a companion checklist designed to provide actionable guidance for ethical dataset creation.
