Bio:
Dr. Susannah L. Rose is an ethicist and a mixed methods researcher specializing in patient experience and the ethics of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. She is an Associate Professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) in the Department of Biomedical Informatics and the Department of Health Policy, and Core Faculty in the Center for Biomedical Bioethics and Society. Dr. Rose serves as the Vice-Chair of the VUMC Artificial Intelligence Technology (AIT) Committee that governs AI models within the organization, and she also the Executive Director of the AI Discovery and Vigilance to Accelerate INnovation and Clinical Excellence (ADVANCE) Center. While at Cleveland Clinic, she served as the creator and Director of the AI + Ethics Program, as the Director of Research for Safety, Quality & Patient Experience, and as the Associate Chief of Patient Experience. She is an Instructor at Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health where she teaches public health ethics. She received her Ph.D. from Harvard University’s Health Policy Program (with a concentration in Ethics), and she earned an MS in Bioethics from Union College/Albany Medical Center, and a MS in Social Work from Columbia University. Dr. Rose’s research has been generously funded by multiple funding sources, including the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Harvard University’s Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics, NIH’s Clinical & Translational Science Collaborative (CTSC) at Cleveland Clinic & Case Western Reserve University, and The Greenwall Foundation.
